If you love jumping out of planes or riding bikes down steep mountains you’ll be excited to see that GoPro has just launched the latest in their action camera range for 2024 and it’s lucky 13 for the team as they release 2 new cameras to the market the tiny but powerful “Hero” and the “Hero 13 Black”

There are a few changes to last year’s 12 mostly around the battery capacity and the addition of new lense mods that give your camera a more specific purpose for your use. But it genuinely feels like feedback from users has been forefront in the design.

“This year’s two new GoPro cameras are inspired by and built for the GoPro Community,” says GoPro Founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman. “HERO13 Black features four new interchangeable lens mods that HERO13 automatically detects and adjusts its settings for, magnetic latch mounting, GPS, and a more powerful battery that provides longer runtimes and improved thermal performance. And then there’s HERO, the smallest, lightest 4K GoPro ever with a screen that will appeal to new and experienced users with its rugged, ultralight design and impressive 4K image quality.”

The Hero: Tiny by Design, GoPro by nature weighs only 89g has built-in mounting features and this year they’ve added a screen to the back. The device shoots in 4k and features Hypersmooth, plus it’s rugged and waterproof to 5m (16ft). You can shoot in video, impressive 2x slo-mo and take photos. The Hero is retailing for around $349.95 in Australia, Preorders opened today and the device starts shipping on September 22.

The slightly bigger and more powerful GoPro Hero Black 13 is more customisable than ever before. It now shoots in 5.3k at 60 frames per second, features the Emmy® Award-winning HyperSmooth stabilisation and core GoPro characteristics like 13x Burst Slo-Mo, HDR video, and now WiFi 6 technology.

The other new features include magnetic latch mounting meaning you spend less time trying to unscrew the device to change mounts and a massive new battery that gives you a larger capacity in all weather conditions. The good news is this year they’ve brought back the GPS features. GoPro Hero 13 Black is preordering now for $649.

There’s also a new range of lenses for the Hero 13, previously we had the Max Lense Mod and now there’s a whole family of lenses to suit specific purposes and environments.

The Ultra Wide Lens creates a better POV with a 177° field of view and a new 1:1 aspect ratio while the Macro Lens Mod gives you variable focus options and objects can be 4x closer. They are also releasing an Anamorphic Lens Mod in 2025 to add that cinematic flare to your footage which makes sense as more and more film studios look to the product for the action in movies. Additionally, a new official Neutral Density filter pack gives you options of ND4 / ND8 / ND16 and ND32.
