Officers say there are key differences between legitimate currency and the fake money which include:

  • Sir John Monash and Dame Nellie Melba being replaced with Steve Irwin and Alf from Home and Away
  • The Australian Masked Owl and Native wattle in place of a mining haul truck
  • Shine of Remembrance is now John Farnham
  • The word Australia has been shortened to Straylia

“Police would suggest maybe taking a quick glance at any bills received for the next few weeks to make sure you’re getting the real thing.”

Anyone with information about the break-in and theft is urged to contact police on 131 444 and quote reference number 10154370.
