Katherine residents will be heading to the polls to vote for replacements of two councillors.
Deputy Mayor Kym Henderson handed in her resignation to Katherine Town Council CEO Ingrid Stonhill on Monday.
Deputy Mayor Henderson has been on leave since December 14, 2022, and was due to return to her elected role this week.
Cr. Henderson has advised that for personal reasons she is moving interstate.
The Local Government Act 2019 states that once you no longer reside in the council area you are ineligible to be an elected member.
Meantime, Cr. Ben Herdon has also advised that for personal reasons, including work-life balance, he is moving interstate too.
Both councillors have been elected representatives since 2021.
Council will be liaising with the Northern Territory Electoral Commission and will advise the appropriate way forward to a by-election.
Both are being wished well for their future endeavours.
