Man found dead in submerged ute at Dundee Downs

Police have recovered the body of a man in a submerged vehicle at Dundee Downs.

A ute, with two occupants crashed and rolled into water near Six Pack Creek Boat Ramp last Thursday, trapping them inside.

One person managed to get out before the car sank and was taken to hospital.

It’s understood they did not suffer any serious physical injuries.

The Major Crash Unit, Water Police and general duties officers worked to recover the vehicle for most of Friday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner says it was a difficult recovery.

“Made more complicated due to the presence of saltwater crocodiles – a number of which were destroyed to ensure safety of those involved in the recovery operation.”

Efforts are underway to identify the deceased, with police in contact with his family.

The vehicle was significantly damaged in the crash before entering the water.
