Police believe they have found the body of a Darwin man who has been missing for a year.
36-year-old Tony Rowe was last seen at a pub in Leanyer on 22nd May 2022, and it’s believed an altercation took place.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Michael White says police made a grim discovery late last week.
“On Friday afternoon a crime scene was established south of Darwin during which time an examination of that scene located human remains and other evidence,” he says.
“We are of the strong belief that the remains we have found are Tony.”
It comes after NT Police extradited two people from interstate to face charges over Mr Rowe’s disappearance.
A 29-year-old man was charged with engaging in a violent act causing death, while a 21-year-old woman was charged with interfering with evidence.
The man has since been charged with murder and has been remanded in custody to face Darwin Local Court on July 12.
Acting Deputy Commissioner White says Mr Rowe’s mother and sister have now been provided with some closure.
“They’re very appreciative of the effort and the work that NT Police and other agencies.”
Forensic analysis is ongoing to positively identify the remains.
