A man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman and breaching a domestic violence order at Lake Alexander.
Police received a report of a disturbance at around 2.00am this morning and responded along with a dog squad unit.
They say the alleged offender walked into the ocean to try and evade officers before leading them on a foot chase through thick bushland.
After about half an hour they arrested the man in a residential area, at the intersection of Philip Street and Hinkler Crescent of Fannie Bay.
He was taken to the Palmerston Watch House and will remain there until his court appearance later today.
The 40-year-old will face aggravated assault and breach of domestic violence charges.
