After 20-years of lighting up the sky at Mindil Beach, the Territory Day fireworks display is changing locations.
Major Events Minister Brent Potter made the announcement yesterday – saying the festivities are moving to Fort Hill Parklands at the Darwin Waterfront.
Mr Potter hinted the reason for the move was due to permit issues and compliance with the Aboriginal Area Protection Authority.
However, the Authority’s CEO Benedict Scambary says they had no part in the decision, it’s not compulsory to have a certificate and they haven’t had an application for one.
The theme of this year’s cracker night is ‘It’s a Territory Thing’ – and it this year falls on a Monday.
Work is now underway to ensure Mindil Beach can hold the event again in 2025.
