Labor’s bid at a third term in government has been crushed with the Country Liberal Party claiming victory in the Northern Territory election.
The party will make their return to power after eight years since they held majority, following a campaign which focused heavily on law and order.
Incumbent Chief Minister Eva Lawler has conceded defeat to CLP leader Lia Finocchiaro.
Eva Lawler will also lose her seat of Drysdale, in Palmerston, to CLP candidate Clinton Howe, as he leads with 62 percent of votes.
It’s predicted the CLP will form government with 15 seats, claiming eight new seats.
A party needs 13 seats to win.
The vote count so far has shown a massive swing against Labor, across the greater Darwin region.
It includes the seat of Port Darwin, with CLP candidate Robyn Cahill leading the count by 61 percent.
CLP candidate Matthew Kerle is leading in the seat of Blain by 52 per cent.
Meantime, there’s a swing towards the Greens for Fannie Bay.
Labor is ahead in the seat of Nightcliff, with Natasha Fyles leading the vote by 62 percent.
Of the primary votes counted so far 23,775 Territorians have voted for the CLP and 14,738 have voted for the ALP.
