Greater protection for our local honeybees with the NT Government working to introduce amendments to parliament.
The amendments would aim to protect our bees from pest and disease threats including Varroa mite spread.
Minister for Agriculture Gerard Maley says the NT’s honeybee industry plays a vital role in supporting local food production and ecological health.
“Strong biosecurity is critical to protecting our agricultural industries, and bees play an essential role in pollinating fruits, vegetables, and native flora across the Territory,” he says.
Territory beekeepers import around 2,000 queen bees from interstate annually, but there are no breeders locally.
