Hollywood & SNL Veteran Bill Hader has been tapped to serve as both co-writer and co-showrunner, along side Daniel Zelman, of a mini-series depicting the life of cult leader Rev. Jim Jones. At this stage Hader is set to potentially also serve as the shows star and director of the upcoming HBO docu-series.
Jonestown made headlines in November of 1978 after Rev. Jim Jones orchestrated a mass murder-suicide of over 900 people in Jonestown, Guyana. Jones forced the members of his Peoples Temple to drink cyanide laced punch, even going so far as to forcibly inject others. Members of the Peoples Temple even murdered the current U.S. Congressman Leo Ryan, at the order of Jones.
Whilst this is far from the first depiction of the Jonestown murder-suicide, it’ll be interesting to see how Hader and Zelman tackle this horrific moment in history.
