A man is facing a raft of charges over an alleged carjacking in Millner.
The 28-year-old approached a man who was sitting in his car out the front of a business on Sabine Road at 2.30am yesterday.
He then allegedly threatened the driver with an edged weapon in an attempt to steal his car.
But the man pushed the weapon away, sustaining a severe cut to his finger before getting out of his car.
The 28-year-old then allegedly stole the vehicle, driving on the wrong side of McMillians Road, sparking a short police chase which ended on Bagot Road in Ludmilla.
Officers later found the car abandoned in Coconut Grove and arrested the man at around 1pm at Casuarina Square.
He has since been charged with seven offences including aggravated robbery, dangerous and unlicensed driving and drug possession.
The 28-year-old is expected to face Darwin Local Court tomorrow.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland says the victim required further medical treatment.
“[He] was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital by St John Ambulance and treated for the serious laceration.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact police.
